FOREST FEASTS

THOUGHTS ON THE
FOREST AS THE
SPATIAL DESIRE OF
QUEERNESS -
A PLACE WHERE THE ‘OTHER’ THRIVES
Reflecting on years of designs and personal experiments exploring otherness and growth within a forest context, I embarked on a series of accessible, immersive food experiences.
For this ongoing project which began in 2023, I create foraged feasts in my overgrown ‘urban forest’ garden, where guests come together to reimagine themselves through costume and the senses. This process is informed by an interest in community-building, woodland folktales, and sensations of inner strangeness. I document these events through a series of films and books incorporating imagery of the evenings alongside thoughts, poetry, essays and diary entries that offer the forest as a space to explore personal otherness.

FOREST TEXTURES
As part of this project, I experimented with Photogrammetry, exploring the tactility of digital software and how physical sufaces can be enhanced through texture mapping. This process creates new and unexpected interpretations of trees, such as the imagined interior textures of a hollow tree trunk. I hope to explore this technique further as I investigate the possibilities of digital and physical worldbuilding, translating my foraged feasts into a spatial setting.
This Photogrammetry exploration first began as part of a collaboration with the Dutch Staatsbosbeheer (State Forestry) in Eindhoven’s surrounding forests, looking at new ways to interpret local woodland and make it more accessible.
